About

Vivien is a Singapore-born, multi-passionate creative with Master of Education and Master of Sacred Arts degrees. She is a qualified personal and professional life coach and a certified spiritual director. After two decades as a business lecturer and a human resource development and learning consultant, she now channels her lifelong curiosity about identity, purpose, and meaning into her work as an insatiable mixed media artist.

An acrylic painter since 2007, Vivien has refined her artistic voice through continuous exploration. Today, she creates dynamic and reflective pieces by blending mixed media—including paper, found materials, and water-based media. She also nurtures her creative passions through writing and bookbinding.

Vivien centers her art practice on silence, stillness, and solitude, which fuel her bold and ambitious projects. She thrives on immersive challenges—once painting all 150 Psalms in a single year. Driven by personal evolution, she is actively seeking her next major theme to shape the body of work for the solo show she dreams about.

Nature constantly inspires her, and time spent observing its textures and movements revitalizes her creative spirit. This connection drives her mark-making, transforming each piece into a vivid expression of her inner landscape. Her art reflects the journey of her wonderings and wanderings—how her heart feels, her mind sees, and her soul imagines. Vivien believes that within our deepest selves lies untapped goodness, and that true creative expression knows no limits.

Her work is held in private collections in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, and the United States. While her creative reach extends far beyond Singapore, she aspires to make an even greater impact. Convinced that the desire for authenticity is universal, Vivien hopes that her art inspires others to evoke their unique stories, and embrace life’s journey with joy  and verve, ultimately becoming the masterpieces they are meant to be.

Among her recent achievements, she was shortlisted in the Emerging Artist category of the 43rd UOB Painting of the Year 2024, Singapore’s premier art competition. She is also a published author, with a devotional featuring 15 of her paintings.

Art-making is an endless journey of discovery, a space where intuition, exploration, and deep learning converge. For the past 18 years, I have immersed myself in a wide range of materials, styles, and processes, embracing the freedom to create organically.

I begin intuitively, working with abandon to express what feels most alive in the moment. Observation and reflection guide my next moves as I respond without judgment to the evolving marks and colors. Silence and stillness become more critical as the piece matures, allowing me to build layers that evoke the mystery and depth of existence.

Words often weave their way into my work, whether as a starting point, an embedded visual element, or a final revelation. Through asemic writing or subtle textual layers, language becomes both a hidden and a revealed presence. I especially cherish the moment when a title emerges, signaling that the artwork has found its voice and is ready to be refined toward the truth it wants to reveal.

Visually, my work draws the viewer in with its richness, complexity, and energy. Yet within the tension, a quiet harmony emerges, reflecting the universal human experience—the search for balance between vice and virtue, madness and meaning, peril and peace.
