In Cravings IV, I turn my lens toward my Singaporean roots with a study of the Ang Ku Kueh (Red Tortoise Cake). This painting focuses on the tactile “mouthfeel” of the pudding—the sticky, chewy resistance and the snap of the peanut or bean filling. Unlike the more chaotic energy of the previous works, this piece utilizes the symbolic form and vibrant “lucky” reds of the local delicacy. It is a celebration of heritage through a foodie’s eyes, where the ritual of the “local snack” is elevated into a rhythmic composition of texture and form, honoring the sensory joy found in everyday Singaporean life.
