About
Vivien is a Singapore-born mixed media artist whose work explores the intersection of identity, purpose, and spirituality. With a background as a business lecturer and certified life coach—holding a Master of Education and a Master of Sacred Arts—Vivien spent two decades in human resource development before transitioning her focus to professional fine art.
Artistic Practice & Philosophy
An abstract artist since 2007, Vivien has evolved her practice into a sophisticated blend of paints, inks, pastels, collage, and found materials. Her artistic voice is grounded in the disciplines of silence, stillness, and solitude, which fuel her bold, large-scale projects.
Vivien is known for her immersive creative challenges, most notably painting all 150 Psalms in a single year. Her current work focuses on:
- Abstract Mark-Making: Transforming nature’s textures into vivid inner landscapes.
- Mixed Media Exploration: Blending various materials to create depth.
- Spiritual Narrative: Using art as a medium for wonderings and wanderings of the soul.
Recognition & Global Reach
Vivien’s active involvement in the Singapore art scene was recently recognized when she was shortlisted consecutively for the UOB Painting of the Year award in 2024 and 2025 (Emerging Artist category), Singapore’s most prestigious art competition.
Beyond the gallery, she is a published author of a devotional featuring 15 of her original paintings. Her work is held in private art collections across the globe, including Sinapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and the United States.
The Vision
Whether through her contemporary paintings, bookbinding, or writing, Vivien’s goal is to inspire authenticity. She believes that creative expression knows no limits and hopes her art encourages others to embrace their unique stories with joy and verve.
Art-making is an endless journey of discovery, a space where intuition, exploration, and deep learning converge. For the past 18 years, I have immersed myself in a wide range of materials, styles, and processes, embracing the freedom to create organically.
I begin intuitively, working with abandon to express what feels most alive in the moment. Observation and reflection guide my next moves as I respond without judgment to the evolving marks and colors. Silence and stillness become more critical as the piece matures, allowing me to build layers that evoke the mystery and depth of existence.
Words often weave their way into my work, whether as a starting point, an embedded visual element, or a final revelation. Through asemic writing or subtle textual layers, language becomes both a hidden and a revealed presence. I especially cherish the moment when a title emerges, signaling that the artwork has found its voice and is ready to be refined toward the truth it wants to reveal.
Visually, my work draws the viewer in with its richness, complexity, and energy. Yet within the tension, a quiet harmony emerges, reflecting the universal human experience—the search for balance between vice and virtue, madness and meaning, peril and peace.
