Gate of Heaven

Gate of Heaven

When I run, I often pray—sometimes repeating a meditative phrase, other times simply talking to God. This painting was inspired by a 30-kilometre night run. The experience was unusual for me: the city lights glowed beautifully, almost mesmerizing, and I imagined myself running toward them. It felt like running toward the gates of heaven.

In my mind, I could almost see cheerleaders along the way, urging me on. And in real life, I have good friends who run alongside me—spurring me on to live more fully, true to my faith and its message of love. Each, in their own way, shows me what true love is: through their honesty, simplicity, constancy, openness, kindness, and faith. They inspire me to keep running toward the glory of the day when we will all walk through those gates together.

On my own, I might end up running in circles, lost in the dark, or straying off the path—heaven’s gates distant and closed. But with these spiritual friends, the journey is filled with joy and blessing. Truly, an amazing (g)race.

Who are the friends who will lead you Home?
